On Monday 12th Nov, Our girls football team traveled to Dedworth Middle School for the 'Danone' girls Under 11's tournament.
Their first game was against host school, Dedworth's A team and after a strong start we took the lead and dominated the field. With goals from Rebekah and Mahi, the final score of the first match was 2-0.
The second game saw us take on local rivals Western House and after going 2 - nil down we switch it up a gear in the second half. 2 magnificent goals from Rebekah meant it was a 2 all draw.
After an agonising wait to see who would play who next, we found ourselves top of our group in goal difference which meant we played Priory in the semi-finals. We couldn’t have had a closer game and both sides battled to the end but no goals were scored so extra time was played. With some fantastic defensive play from Lola, Mahi and Faatimah we kept the ball out of the net and took the game to penalties.
With Lola stepping into goal, she managed to keep enough out and with some great penalties takers of our own, we went through into the final against a VERY strong Lynch Hill side. We held our own and with some amazing play by Rebekah down the wing we had some fantastic chances. But neither side could find the net and extra time was added once more. Victoria saved the day with some absolutely outstanding saves and was congratulated by the opposition. Her saves meant that the final would be decided on penalties! Could Cippenham do what England have struggled so much with in the past? Despite the girls best efforts, Lynch Hill won by 1 penalty goal and we proudly took second place silver medals in the competition.
Words can not describe how proud we are of the girls. They have taken on board all of their training from Mrs Hood and Mr Groves. They have grown so much in such a short space of time and we can’t wait for our up-coming fixtures.
